The 9-Grid Photography Project: A Simple Creative Habit You’ll Actually Stick To

The 9-Grid Photography Project

If you’ve ever said “I want to take more photos, but I don’t know where to start” — this project is for you.

The 9-Grid Photography Project is one of my favorite creative projects because it’s:

No pressure. No perfection. Just intention.

What Is the 9-Grid Photography Project?

The idea is simple:

➡️ You take 9 photos each month.
➡️ At the end of the month, those 9 images live together in a 3×3 grid.

That’s it.

You’re not shooting daily.
You’re not committing to a huge project.
You’re just choosing nine moments to notice and document.

Over a year, you’ll have:

Why I Love This Project (Especially as a Mom)

As a mom, creativity has to fit into life — not fight against it.

The 9-grid project works because:

Some months my grid is slow mornings and quiet details.
Some months it’s chaos, kids, and messy kitchens.

Both belong.

How to Do the 9-Grid Project (Without Overthinking It)

Here’s a gentle framework:

  1. Pick a loose theme for the month
  2. Keep the theme in the back of your mind
  3. Take photos when moments naturally happen
  4. At the end of the month, choose your favorite 9
  5. Arrange them into a simple grid

That’s it. No rules beyond that.
